[AMITE, La.] – Longtime Tangipahoa Parish Family Medicine Physician Mark S. Daunis, MD, has joined the medical staff of Amite Rural Health Clinic. He is now accepting new adult and pediatric patients, ages 2 and older. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred and can be scheduled by calling (985) 748-7141.  Most commercial insurances, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

Daunis specializes in the provision of expert primary care and occupational medicine. He also is certified to perform medical examinations for commercial motor vehicle drivers through the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

He comes to Amite Rural Health Clinic from North Oaks Health System in Hammond, where he served as a walk-in clinic and occupational medicine physician for 25 years. His previous experience also includes two years in private practice in Slidell and nine years of active duty service as a physician in the U.S. Navy during which time he earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His tour of duty included: one year spent as a battalion surgeon in Okinawa, Japan; two years as a branch medical clinic staff physician in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; three years as branch medical clinic staff physician in Gulfport, Mississippi; and three years as a family practice physician at the Naval Air Station in Meridian, Mississippi.

Daunis earned his medical degree from Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans. He completed an internship through Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence and a residency in Family Practice through the former Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Professionally, he belongs to the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians and American Academy of Family Physicians.
